Killeen and San Juan, Puerto Rico now "sister cities"

Posted: Updated:

Killeen and San Juan, Puerto Rico are now linked together in a special partnership.

The two became official "sister cities" this weekend.

Events included a welcoming reception at the Killeen Airport for the Mayor of San Juan, Jorge Santini.

There was also a special ceremony where Mayor Santini and Killeen Mayor Timothy Hancock signed the official declaration.

"We hope to share and establish different initiatives in terms of economic development, sports and recreation, cultural activities," says Mayor Santini.  "Education is very important for Killeen and for San Juan."

"We are sisters, we are together," says Mayor Hancock, "we are family members and if we can all join together and make that happen, it can't help but make out city better."

The two mayors already started exchanging ideas this weekend about downtown revitalization - something happening in both cities.

A Killeen delegation plans to visit San Juan soon.
