Baylor's record setting season; tickets still available

Posted: Updated:

The Baylor University football team, staff and cheerleaders are already setting up at Reliant Stadium in Houston for the Texas Bowl.

Wednesday will be the school's first bowl since the 1994 Alamo Bowl against Washington State.

"It's busy, people are excited, people are down here ready to watch some Baylor Bear football," said Matt Johnson with Baylor Athletics.

This football season gives Baylor fans a lot of other firsts; the first seven win season in 15 years, the longest conference winning streak since 1992 and more conference wins in a season since the start of the Big Twelve era.

The Bears were also ranked in consecutive weeks in the AP poll, a first since 1992, and tied for the highest scoring offense in the program's 109-year history.

It's something to make any alumni happy to wear green.

"Your proud to wear a Baylor shirt, and not get made fun of because you lost 70 to nothing. Because you're actually beating people now," said Baylor alumni Brian Brandt.

Sisters Marie and Christine Van Pelt are at opposite ends of the college timeline at Baylor.

Christine is a freshman and Marie is a senior, but this bowl will be a college experience first for both.

"To come here, and then to have them go to a bowl game, it's just really awesome," said Christine.

"Since I was a freshman they'll say 'Oh they're going to be good by this year, this year,' and finally the season is here," said Marie.

There are still tickets out there to the bowl if you're looking for one.

Baylor quickly sold out of its 12-thousand tickets earlier this month, and then sold out of the two thousand more they requested last week.

Baylor officials say there are still tickets available on Ticketmaster and at the ticket booth at Reliant Stadium.

Just make sure you get them on the east side of the stadium, where Baylor's seats are.

The prices range from $40 to $120 per ticket.

Baylor athletics says you'll be part of a crowd that they believe will catch the eyes of bowl committees when it's time for the bears to go to their next post season game.

"At this point, because we sold our allotment plus some, that's made a good enough statement with the bowls, that'll, you know, that'll help us in the future for sure," said Johnson.

If you still can't manage to go to the bowl, the game will air 5 p.m. CST on ESPN and ESPN HD.
