Military families get special train ride to celebrate the holidays
BNSF Railway continued its tradition of honoring military families around the country with the 10th Holiday Express in Temple, inviting Central Texas military families to enjoy some holiday cheer on a magical train ride.
Channel 6 Reporter Jillian Angeline jumped on the train and spoke with military families about what it means to create memories, especially when deployments are a normal part of life.
"I think it's really awesome. I just got back from Afghanistan this morning and Kuwait. I was just impressed with how privileged we are to have these sorts of experiences," one Fort Hood soldier said.
For one military mom, it was a way to surprise the kids for some Christmas fun on their first train ride.
"I took all the clothes with me to work," she said about the festive holiday attire.
The joy of Christmas was shown through the eyes of children of all ages during the trip.
"It's like Polar Express," one girl said.
"Tastes like milk," one boy said while he enjoyed his hot chocolate.
Some kids started an impromptu sing-along with "Santa Claus is Coming to Town".
Santa Claus did in fact visit, walking through each train car, handing out gifts and spreading lots of cheer.
"Thank you for your service," he told the soldiers. He also handed out toys and gave some Ho Ho Ho's to ring in the holidays.
