'This is Us' star Chrissy Metz will visit Waco in April

Chrissy Metz is coming to Waco on April 7.

"This is Us" star Chrissy Metz, 37, who plays Kate on the hit NBC show, will visit Central Texas in spring 2018.

Metz will sign copies of her book, This is Me, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 7 at Magnolia Market.

In the book, Metz shares how she learned from both her successes and setbacks, finding light in some of her darkest moments. The book walks through her childhood, including how her father disappeared one day, leaving her mom to work a series of menial jobs to keep the family from going hungry. It also covers her challenging rise to stardom, which was plagued by years when she barely got an audition. Metz uses her story to offer practical advice for your own life by embracing gratitude and honesty.

On "This is Us," Metz plays Kate Pearson, who finds love while struggling with obesity. The drama follows the Pearsons through different stages in their lives and examines issues ranging from love and family to race and addiction. The show airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. CST on KCEN-TV.

For her work on the show, Metz was nominated for a Golden Globe for best supporting actress in both 2017 and 2018. Prior to "This is Us," she had a recurring role as Ima 'Barbara' Wiggles on the TV show "American Horror Story."
