HOUSTON -- The first lady used to joke her faux pearls were to cover the wrinkles on her neck.
But in fact first ladies all the way back to Martha Washington have worn pearls.
While the late Barbara Bush was known for many things, including her community outreach and literacy efforts, that three-strand necklace of faux pearls became one of her trademarks.
Now Houstonians and people across the country are wearing their pearls to honor the late first lady, some with the hashtag #PearlsforBarbara.
