A 15-year-old boy was shot dead near Jackson Park in Temple Wednesday morning, according to police.

Temple Police Department Spokesperson Shawana Neely previously stated the victim was a female, but later sent an email correcting her previous statements.

On Thursday, Neely identified the victim as Andrew Bryan and said Justice of the Peace David Barfield had ordered an autopsy to be performed in Dallas.

Neely said officers arrested the lone suspect shortly after 11 a.m., but she did not immediately release the suspect's identity. She said the suspect, who was transported to the Temple Police Department's Juvenile Processing Office, had been hiding in a residence in the 900 block of N. 8th Street before he surrendered himself.

Police had previously blocked off parts of 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th Streets near Jackson Park, as part of their search for the shooter, according to law enforcement officials. Jackson Park is located at 925 N. 4th St. in Temple.

SWAT officers in tactical gear were visible to bystanders, as were two mobile command centers and an armored vehicle, which were dispatched after the initial shooting.

Lamar Middle School and Jefferson Elementary School were each put on a soft lockdown during the hunt for the suspect. Those lockdowns have since been lifted, according to Neely.

Neely said the Temple Police Department's Violent Crime Unit was leading the investigation.
