An innocent driver was killed early Saturday when a chase suspect crashed into her car in Houston, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened after a DPS trooper unsuccessfully tried to stop the driver of a red Ford Mustang for a traffic violation in the city of Rosenberg around 6 a.m.

Investigators said the teen suspect sped off, ran several red lights, then crashed into the victim’s Honda at the intersection of Schiller Road and State Highway 6 on Houston's west side.

The suspect ran, but a Harris County deputy caught and arrested him.

DPS identified the suspect as Chidi Onunkwo, 17, of Katy. Onunkwo was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital to be treated for his own injuries.

He was charged with felony evading in a vehicle, and authorities said other charges were pending. Investigators said the Mustang he was driving had been reported stolen after a carjacking in Houston.

The victim in the Honda was identified as Adorn Strambler, 60. She had worked for the City of Houston for 26 years as a senior paralegal.
