Driver arrested for intoxication assault after crash sends another to hospital

The one driver was charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle.

Waco Police arrested a driver for intoxication assault after a two-vehicle crash that happened around 2 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of 25th Street and Bosque Boulevard, which remained closed for an investigation several hours later.

Based on their early findings, police said John Dillon Carr, 23, was driving a pickup truck east on Bosque Boulevard when he struck an SUV driven by another male, causing the SUV to strike a power pole, fire hydrant and street signs -- trapping the other male inside.

Firefighters cut the vehicle open and extracted the male, who was transported to Hillcrest Hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. As of late Thursday morning, he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said Carr was also taken to Hillcrest, where he was medically cleared, arrested and then transported to the McLennan County Jail.

Crash reconstruction detectives and crime scene investigators were dispatched, as was Oncor since the power pole needed to be fixed.

According to online jail records, Carr was charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle. He was also booked on an unrelated warrant for "no boat registration," jail records showed.
