A 71-year-old woman was shot in the foot while in her apartment in the 1100 block of Horizon Drive in Killeen just before 3 a.m. Monday.
Four people were involved in a dispute outside her apartment complex. When their argument escalated, a single shot from a handgun went through her door and struck her, police said.
Before officers arrived, the group at the center of the shooting barricaded themselves inside a nearby apartment. The SWAT team was activated, and officers evacuated apartments, while advising other residents to shelter in place.
Just before 6 a.m., negotiators convinced the group to come outside. Police said there were three women and one man -- along with a five-month-old child. One of the women was arrested for outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The other adults were questioned and released, police said.
The 71-year-old victim was taken to Metroplex Hospital, but her injuries were not life-threatening. Horizon Drive was temporarily closed, but it has since reopened to traffic.
