Police have confirmed that a suspected burglar was the person shot dead on Spring Rose Circle in Killeen Wednesday night.
Killeen Police Spokesperson Ofelia Miramontez said officers were dispatched at 6:16 p.m. to the 1700 block of Spring Rose Circle for a report of shots fired. When they arrived, officers found a teen dead with a gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke officially pronounced him dead at 6:47 p.m.
During the investigation, officers determined the 16-year-old appeared to have broken into the residence when he was shot. Miramontez said the boy's name would not be released because he was a juvenile.
Detectives with KPD's Homicide Unit were dispatched to handle the case, and they continued to investigate the shooting on Friday.
An autopsy was ordered to be performed in Dallas.
