Temple Police ID victims of fatal hit-and-run as mother and son

The Criminal Investigations Division is preparing the case for review with the Bell County District Attorney's Office.

Temple Police have identified the driver who surrendered himself after a Friday night hit-and-run which left two people dead at the intersection of South 1st Street and W. Avenue O.

Around 11:07 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of 5th Street and Avenue O, where a 911 caller told dispatch that a maroon pickup truck sped away from the scene of a crash. When police arrived, they found a male and female dead on the ground.

Roughly 20 minutes later, the driver, 60-year-old Darrell Gene Holloway, turned himself in at the Temple Police Department, according to Temple Police Spokesperson Shawana Neely.

"Officers believed the subject to be intoxicated and conducted a sobriety screening," Neely said in a press release.

The results of that screening were not immediately made public.

The victims of the crash have been identified as Temple residents, mother and son, 51-year-old Maria Marta Garza and 33-year-old Pedro Danny Garza.

The Criminal Investigations Division is preparing the case for review with the Bell County District Attorney's Office.
