Suspect charged after shooting at KPD officers

His bond is set at $500,000.

A suspect connected with a Sunday night shooting in the 1200 block of Cavalry Drive in Killeen has been charged, according to Killeen PD.

The case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging 44-year-old Kelvin Javar Jones with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.

Officers were dispatched to the scene of the shooting around 8:24 p.m. Sunday in reference to a 911 call about an armed subject. While police were headed to the scene, they received calls about several male armed with “laser guns.”

When they arrived at the scene, police said shots were fired by a suspect toward the officers, who returned fire. Jones was later found by officers in the backyard of a residence on Loyal Lane. He was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke and his bond was set at $500,000.
