(KXAS) -- Mesquite police are missing a high-powered rifle, bulletproof vest and other police gear after a thief broke into an unmarked squad car and stole the equipment.

The crime happened at about 2:45 p.m. Friday. What makes the crime even more shocking is that it happened in the gated parking lot of the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center.

The center houses the Dallas Police Department's Child Abuse Unit, as well as an assistant district attorney.

Dallas police released surveillance video of the crime. In the video, a man in dark clothes somehow gets into the driver's side door and pops the trunk of the car.

The thief stole a Colt AR-15, two 30-round magazines, a police radio, a bulletproof vest and a jacket used by the officer during raids.

Anyone who recognizes the car or the man in the video is asked to call Dallas police at 214-671-0126.
