HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Investigators say three people have been killed and two were critically hurt in a three-vehicle wreck in Central Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was investigating the deadly accident that happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 45 just south of Huntsville.

Authorities say a car crashed into an unoccupied vehicle on the shoulder of southbound I-45. Officials say an SUV came upon that accident, tried to avoid the wreck and rolled.

Officials say three passengers in the SUV died at the scene. The SUV driver and another passenger were transported to a hospital. The driver of the car wasn't injured.

Names of the victims and further details weren't immediately available.
