Two people are dead and one person is in the hospital after an one-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Old Highway 81 in Troy.

Police said a call for the crash came in about 8:28 p.m.

The car left the roadway and struck a tree causing the vehicle to catch on fire.

Two of the occupants, a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old femaledied at the scene. The third occupant a 17-year-old girl was taken to Scott & White Hospital with unknown injuries.

One of the victims was a former Troy High School student. Troy ISD Superintendent Neil Jeter said they are saddened by the tragic car crash that claimed the life of the student.

"It is my understanding that law enforcement has not released any names of those involved," Jeter said. "Out of respect to the family, it would be inappropriate for me to identify the deceased by name."

Neil said counselors will be provided to the school.

Texas DPS said more information will be released as it becomes available.
