WACO - Waco nonprofit charity Caritas normally sees demand for food drop off as kids go back to school. This year however they have seen record setting levels of families in need. In August, September, and October, an average of 2700 families have visited Caritas each month. They see about 130 families a day.

The charity serves people in a variety of situations in the community from single mothers to college students.

McLennan Community College student Isis Lee has gotten assistance from the nonprofit several times as she worked to scrape by as an artist and student. Sunday she did something to give back.

Lee is a psychology and music major and is taking a class on Talent and Business Management. Her final project was to put together a concert at a local venue.

Lee went above and beyond to hold a nine-hour concert at the Backyard Bar Stage and Grill in Waco to benefit Caritas. Around 11 different performances came out over the course of the night. Lee collected money, food and clothing donations from patrons during the event.

"Caritas not only provides food for me and my family, it has also been a way for them to help us cover our bills," Lee said. "They have personally helped me stay afloat during the semester. It has been really wonderful support for me."

Lee said she and other musicians will work for the rest of the year to raise additional funding for Caritas and the organization is also in need of food and volunteers. If you would like to volunteer you can sign up here.
