Community hosts emergency baby shower for Moody family who lost everything after house fire

The Moody community came together Thursday to help an expectant mother after she and her family of fourteen lost everything in a house fire Tuesday. They planned an emergency baby shower to help her gain back some of the things she lost. Doctors will induce the mother on Friday. When the community found out the baby was coming so soon, they sprang into action and started collecting donations

“We just felt like the best thing we could do was come together as a community and try to get her the necessities she needed before the baby comes," baby shower organizer Kristy Watson said.

In two days, Watson and her friend put out the call for baby donations and the response was overwhelming. The pastor of First United Methodist Church in Moody opened his doors for the emergency community baby shower. Moms like Elizabeth Flippo went around town to meet up with other moms who were giving away bags of baby clothes.

"I’m a mom too, and just knowing that she's about to have a baby on Friday and not having anything for the baby, as parents we want our babies to have what they need," Flippo said.

Moody ISD is also pitching in to help. All monetary donations are being taken at their administration office. Watson said Moody is a tight-knit community and they are trying their hardest to make sure mom, baby, and the family have everything they need.

"We prayed and prayed about it and God has put it all in place,” Watson said. "It's been a blessing and I hope it is a huge blessing to her."

The family did not want to speak on camera today but appreciates what the community did for them.

Fire officials said the cause of the house fire is unknown.
