Fire crews have responded to a house fire in Belton off Elf Trail that has produced a smoke cloud visible for miles.

The Salado Volunteer Fire Department, Stillhouse Volunteer Fire Department, and Belton Fire Department all responded to the scene.

According to Salado Fire Chief Shane Berrier, the house burned to the ground and fire officials are cleaning up what's left of the home.

Berrier told Channel 6 the fire has burned for several hours.

Fire officials said no one was in or around the home during the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
