A driver was airlifted to Hillcrest Hospital in Waco after a major crash on the northbound I-35 frontage road near mile marker 356 near Abbott shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.
The Department of Public Safety said a small four-door Chevy car ran a stop sign while driving west on the County Line Road. It was then struck by a Ford SUV that was traveling north on the frontage road.
The 27-year-old Chevy driver, who was from Waco, was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition, Trooper DL Wilson said.
The 28-year-old Ford driver, who was from Hillsboro, was not hurt, according to DPS.
The Ford vehicle caught fire, Wilson said. But, while smoke could be seen from the interstate, the fire was only minor, according to DPS.
