Grand jury clears officers of any criminal wrongdoing in suspect shooting death

'The family will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers,' Waco's police chief said.

A McLennan County Grand Jury on Wednesday cleared Waco police of any criminal wrongdoing in the April 13 shooting death of Kenneth Warren Resendez, 34, who was killed after law enforcement said he was armed with a knife and holding family members hostage inside a home in the 3800 block of Speight Avenue.

"The Waco Police Department Special Crimes Unit along with the Texas Rangers completed a joint criminal investigation and forwarded their investigation to the McLennan County District Attorney Office," Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton wrote in a press release. "The investigation concluded the involved officers followed state law."

Waco Police Chief Ryan Holt said the situation was tragic for the officers involved and for the grieving family.

"The family will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers," Holt said. "And, we'll continue to support the officers as they move forward from this traumatic event."

No officers were injured.
