Five people were rescued after a home explosion in Navarro County late Thursday night.

It happened in the 500 block of West Highway 31 in Dawson around 11:00 p.m.

When emergency crews arrived, the house was partially collapsed and on fire. Crews extinguished the fire and saved five adults trapped inside.

Three of the adults were taken to the hospital. A husband and wife were flown to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, while a third victim was transported to a Waco hospital. The other two adults were treated at the scene and released. The conditions of the three hospitalized victims were unknown.

No other homes were damaged by the explosion, but a nearby church had eleven windows blown out.

First responders believe a fire led to the explosion. But, the flames were put out quickly with a fire extinguisher.

The explosion is now under investigation. A neighbor told our sister-station WFAA that people in the neighborhood had recently complained about the odor of gas.

Highway 31 was closed temporarily but is now back open.
