Temple's JCPenney will hold a 100-year anniversary celebration this week.

The retailer will host a celebration at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Giveaways begin at 10:00 a.m. when the store officially opens, and the first 100 customers in line will receive envelopes containing coupons worth anywhere from $10 to $100 off their purchases.

Founder James Cash opened the city's first JCPenney store at 20 South Main Street in 1917. It later moved to its current location inside the Temple Mall.

Local officials will join current store General Manager David Gyergyo for brief remarks and to blow out 100 birthday candles.
