A fourth grade elementary school teacher in Killeen was hoping to inspire his kids for the STAAR tests with his own rendition of a Bruno Mars song.

Arnold Murphy is in his first year at Haynes Elementary School and with the STAAR tests starting Monday, he posted a video of himself rapping to "24K Magic."

Murphy, originally from Philadelphia, is a veteran and graduate of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor.

"Motivating his students is definitely a passion of his! He uses music and technology to do this," said his wife, Melissa Murphy.

"Besides the raps and songs he writes for his students. He has also started a club for the boys at our campus called Boys to Men Academy. It is a mentorship that teaches manners and responsibility. The club provides the boys with a positive environment as they have had the chance to participate in community services and district events," said Melissa.

The STAAR test, or the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness program, tests kids in grades three through eight. The testing runs all this week.
