Belton drivers should expect a change on Main Street beginning Friday.

The southbound lane on between 8th and 10th Avenues will shift to allow for the construction of a two-foot concrete median on the street. The median is being added to Main Street for safety purposes and will restrict turning motions and help traffic flow. A new traffic signal and sidewalk ramps will also be installed.

Lanes in both directions will remain open during construction, but the width of the lanes will be temporarily reduced.

Belton PIO Paul Romer said the shift is expected to last up to 10 business days. He said for drivers to drive cautiously around road workers during construction.
