Man airlifted to hospital after officer-involved shooting in Killeen

A KPD officer shot at a man Friday night, after police say that man charged at the officer.

KILLEEN -- Killeen Police said one of their own shot at a man after that man unexpectedly charged at the officer Friday night.

Police were dispatched at 6:23 p.m. to the 2600 block of Cross Timber Drive in Killeen, where an ambulance had been involved in a crash.

When the officer reached the scene, police said the man charged at that officer -- causing the officer to shoot at the man. Killeen Police Spokesperson Ofelia Miramontez said the man was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple, where his condition was unknown Friday night.

Per regular department policy, the officer was placed on administrative leave while an investigation was conducted. The Texas Rangers will lead the investigation, per protocol.
