Killeen police have identified the man who was fatally shot Sunday afternoon after a verbal altercation.
Officials said officers were dispatched to the scene around 2:10 p.m. They found 27-year-old Curtis E. Shelley of Killeen on the ground in the 1000 block of Cedar Drive with a gunshot wound.
An investigation found the victim and a suspect were involved in an ongoing dispute. At the time of the altercation, the suspected fired his weapon at Shelley.
He was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he was initially listed in critical condition. However, he died of his injuries and was pronounced dead at 4:52 p.m.
Shelley's body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
Detective were able to identify the parties involved and the investigation is ongoing.
The case will be sent to the Bell County District Attorney's Office for review.
