National Geographic will conclude in a few weeks its Central Texas filming of scenes for the miniseries The Long Road Home, which is based on Martha Raddatz's New York Times best-selling book and depicts the eight-hour battle to rescue a First Cavalry Division platoon ambushed on April 4, 2004, which some claim marked a turning point in the Iraq War.

Recently, the project has been filming at a range area on Fort Hood -- made to look like Iraq's Sadr City.

The miniseries stars celebrities including Kate Bosworth, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Michael Kelly and Jason Ritter.
