Recreation facilities at Lake Whitney will close temporarily to work on the Whitney dam, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Thursday.
Lofers Bend Day Use Park and part of Lofers Bend West Campground will be closed to replace degraded rip rap and regrade a portion of the upstream slop of Whitney Lake Dam.
Rirrap is comprised of large loose stones on the slop of the dam which prevents erosion from wave action, the corps of engineers said. The degraded riprap will be placed along the shoreline in Lofers Bend West Campground to help protect the shoreline from erosion.
The public will be restricted from entering the construction zone during the duration of work.
