Residents let back into homes after major fire in Morgan's Point Resort

Multiple agencies responded to a large grass fire Thursday evening in Morgan’s Point Resort.

Residents are being allowed back into a Morgan’s Point neighborhood after a fire broke out early Thursday afternoon.

Dozens of houses were evacuated at the time of the fire.

Fore people living in the lakefront neighborhood, it was a scary sight to come home to.

Multiple agencies responded to the blaze and were able to contain the flames from spreading fairly quickly.

Firefighters ran door to door, evacuating a number of homes.

Luckily, no homes were damaged, but at one point flames were as close as four to five-feet from houses.

The area was already under a burn ban, and hot, dry temperatures have not helped the blaze, according to emergency officials. Officials said they still have not determined what caused it but have an idea. Residents said it made for some tense moments.

“There was some questions as to how this started, we are still working to figure that out but deputies were able to detain some individuals, and so we’ll look into that once this is all taken care of,” Fred Churchill, Morgan’s Point Resort Police Chief said.

Resident Chris Dixon was evacuated from his home. He said it was scary but they were able to get out of there within two minutes.

“So the hardest part was thinking if we were going to have a house to get back to, but it looks like police and firefighters did a good job,” Dixon said.

Crews are still on scene, but at last check the fire did not pose any threat to homes in the area.roperty, at that point. Even so, the fire got dangerously close to some homes, burning backyards, Churchill said.

We have a crew at the scene. Check back for updates.
