Skateboarders around the state of Texas converged on Cameron Park in Waco Saturday for the 7th Annual Gnarathon.
Gnarathon is a downhill skateboard race held every year since 2011. It was originally started by the Waco Longboard Club, but 22-year-old Ryan Richbourg is in his fourth year running the event.
More than 100 skateboarders raced down the hills in heats, and vendors came from as far away as Austin to be a part of the event.
Richbourg said it’s usually illegal to skateboard in Cameron Park.
“It’s just a great time for all the Texas community to be here together, skate and have fun," he said.
Gnarathon continues all day Sunday.
Richbourg said all the entry fees go to paying for the event including permits and fees to shut down the streets in Cameron Park.
“Gnarathon is really unique because it’s a family event more than anything,” he said. “There’s the competitive side to it, but everyone’s here to have a good time and see old friends.”
