Students at South Belton Middle School hosted over 90 active duty and retired military service members at their school Thursday for Take a Vet to School Day in honor of Veteran's Day.
The festivities began with an honorary breakfast hosted in the school's cafeteria. An assembly followed in the gym where the school's girl choir and band performed for the veterans.
State Representative Hugh Shine also attended the event as a guest speaker. He shared a message to the students before the group broke off into classrooms to hear the stories and see memorabilia of the veterans.
The special event ended with a SBMS student performing a heartwarming rendition of the military song TAPS.
All day veteran's faces were lit with smiles as they were given the chance to share their memories with the youth of Belton.
