A "gun" a student reported seeing at Midway Middle School was only a BB gun.
On Thursday, a student reported seeing another kid with a gun in a backpack.
Administrators investigated the accusation and realized it was only a BB gun. Even so, the district said, all weapons -- including BB guns -- are banned at school.
"We are grateful for the trust and relationship we have with students who immediately reported this situation so we could address it quickly, and that students were not in danger at any time," Principal Dr. Herb Cox wrote in an email to parents. "We will continue to do all we can to maintain the safety and security of our students as top priority."
On Friday, the district again tried to dispel any rumors circulating among parents and students.
"To reiterate, the gun was a toy gun, but we notify parents in situations like this to help prevent rumors," Midway ISD Spokesperson Traci Marlin wrote in an email. "We do not have any further statements at this time since the extent of the situation is described in the email, and the consequences/identity of the student are privacy-protected information."
