Veteran cyclists on 400-mile ride make their stop on Fort Hood

Following their welcome ceremony on Fort Hood, the riders departed from III Corps Headquarters to the next journey 70 miles away in Waco and then northward to Fort Worth.

More than 140 injured veterans and their supporters cycled through Fort Hood at 9:25 a.m. Thursday for the Project Hero United Healthcare Texas Challenge for wounded warriors.

The riders’ journey started Wednesday in San Antonio and the more than 400-mile ride will end in Fort Worth Saturday.

Following their welcome ceremony on Fort Hood, the riders departed from III Corps Headquarters to the next journey 70 miles away in Waco and then northward to Fort Worth.

Project Hero, a national non-profit organization, was founded in 2008. The organization is dedicated to helping veterans and first responders affected by PTSD, TBI, illness, and injury achieve rehabilitation, recovery and resilience in their daily lives and increasing awareness to combat he national mental health emergency posed by PTSD and TBI.
