NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A Norfolk retired marine suffering from cancer is more concerned about his family's comfort than his own.
They don't have a working HVAC system, and one company stepped in to help out.
Keith English refuses to let his stage 4 lung cancer control his life. He has a loving family and traveled the world as a marine
"I found out in January that I had three to six months to live," he said. "America expects a lot from her marines, and that's why I live like I do."
Recently, his main priority has been fixing his family's HVAC system, but he has been unable to fix it himself.
"I didn't want my family to be uncomfortable when I passed," he said. "Cancer is expensive. It takes your money, your time."
His 15-year-old son, Tyler, wrote in an RS Andrews contest and won. The company is installing a new HVAC system at no cost.
"I wouldn't ask for anything for free, there are people out there that are worse off, I'm grateful for what I have, very grateful," said English.
