Waco Police officer avoids serious injury after getting struck by car

The officer had just gotten off work and was in a Whataburger parking lot when the suspect sped toward him.

A Waco Police officer narrowly escaped serious injury early Sunday morning after he was nearly run over by a car in a Whataburger parking lot.

According to a post on the Waco Police Department Facebook page, the officer had just gotten off work and stopped at the Whataburger on South 7th St. As he was walking through the parking lot, police said the driver of a white 4-door sedan suddenly reversed into a vehicle.

The Waco officer and a Robinson Police officer with him tried to stop the suspect but he sped toward them.

The Waco officer managed to jump out of the way but he was still slightly struck by the side of the car, according to police. The Robinson Police officer was not hit.

Police said the driver of the car then jumped a curb and drove away.

The Waco officer was not badly injured.

Police found the suspect's car later that day but the suspect remained at large Monday morning.

Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts can call Waco Police at 254-750-7500.
