(KXAS) -- A magnitude 2.4 earthquake one mile west of Ovilla had residents of Ellis County calling emergency services to find out what was happening.

The United States Geologic Survey reported a magnitude 2.4 quake with an epicenter that was located 1 mile west of Ovilla, 2 miles west-southwest of Glenn Heights, and 5 miles away from DeSoto and Cedar Hill.

The earthquake was reportedly detected at 8:37 a.m., but there may have been aftershocks from the tremor that residents in Ellis County could have felt.

Emergency crews in Cedar Hill received multiple calls from concerned residents.
