Channel Six News, in partnership with our parent company TEGNA, has launched a campaign called 'Texas Cares' to help the tornado victims of East Texas.
Every dollar you donate will be given directly to The Salvation Army for the sole purpose of assisting victims of those tornadoes. And, all donations are tax deductible.
The funds will cover food and water for victims and first responders. Money will also be spent on household clean-up kits for those devastated by the storms.
For reference, $35 helps provide one household clean-up kit. Five hundred dollars can keep a disaster food truck operational for a day. A single one of those trucks can serve up to 1,500 meals per day.
The first priority will be funding relief expenses like those listed above. Any additional money will be spent to help meet the victims' long-term needs by paying contractors to help victims rebuild their lives.
You will receive a receipt after making a donation. It should say “thank you for your contribution to the East Texas Tornado Relief Fund of the Communities Foundation of Texas. Your donation helps those who have suffered as a result of the recent tornadoes. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Your charitable gift is tax-deductible to the extend allowed by law. Please print and keep a copy of this acknowledgment as your receipt for tax purposes.”
