WACO, Texas – Baylor softball third baseman Lindsey Cargill was named the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

For Cargill, the senior has continued and even improved on a remarkable season at the plate, helping lead the Lady Bears to a sweep over Iowa State, BU’s second-consecutive Big 12 series sweep.

She led or tied for the lead in the Big 12 in batting average (.667), on-base percentage (.750), slugging percentage (1.000), runs scored (6), hits (6), and triples (1).

The local Robinson, Texas, native opened up her lead over the conference in batting average for the season, topping out at a .484 hitting clip, leading the Big 12 by .082 points.

After a three-hit outing in game three vs. Iowa State, Cargill moved into a tie with Kelly Osburn (19, 2004-2005) for the longest hitting streak in program history. She will have a chance to break the record in Tuesday’s game at Texas State in San Marcos.

The multi-hit game moved Cargill’s career hit total to 230, tying Kathy Shelton (230, 2010-2013) and Kayce Walker (230, 2009-2012) for the No. 3 spot on Baylor’s career hit list.

The award is the second career weekly honor for the senior, last winning Player of the Week on Feb. 23, 2016.

Cargill is Baylor’s third Big 12 Player of the Week for 2017, giving Baylor six total awards through the first nine weeks of the season, the second most in the conference.
