The McLennan Highlassies defeated the Odessa Lady Wranglers 104-100 this afternoon to advance to the semifinal round of the Region V Tournament in Lubbock.
The game was tied at 10 with 13 minutes left in the first half. McLennan used a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to take the 19-10 lead. The Highlassies extended the lead to 16, 42-27, with 2:08 to go in the half. Odessa ended the half on a 12-5 run to cut the lead to eight at the break, 47-39.
McLennan increased the lead to 18 multiple times in the second half. The Highlassies led 82-64 with five minutes remaining in the game. Odessa rallied, cutting the lead to three, 82-79, with 2:35 to play. McLennan increased the lead back to 12, 93-81, just over a minute later. The Lady Wranglers rallied again, cutting the lead to four in the final seconds but were unable to pull any closer.
Freshman Sha'de Adedapo led McLennan with 23 points. Sophomores Shanice Davis and Ashley Bean scored 20 points each. Freshman Amani Davis and sophomore Latifah Rainey scored 12 and 10, respectively. Shanice Davis (12 assists) and Rainey (17 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles.
The Highlassies will face either Midland and Weatherford at 5 p.m. tomorrow.
