BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas A&M freshman Derrick Tucker earned Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday after filling up the stat sheet in Saturday's 31-24 win over Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss.
The Manvel, Texas native, logged his first career interception and returned it 19 yards for the game’s only second half touchdown, giving his team their first lead of the day. In his sixth career start, Tucker logged a game-high 14 tackles, including a tackle-for-loss, a forced fumble and two pass break ups.
The freshman became the first Aggie to garner SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and fourth since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012; joining Armani Watts (Sept. 24, 2016), Justin Evans (Sept. 17, 2016) and Deshazor Everett (Sept. 27, 2014).
