Huntsville, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team could not overcome Sam Houston State's hot shooting as the Cru fell to the Division I Bearcats 99-44 in an exhibition game Saturday evening in Huntsville. Exhibition games do not count in a team's season record.

The Cru jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Taylor Tucker's jumper 32 seconds into the game, but Sam Houston State promptly went on a 9-0 run to take control. UMHB would get closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Bearcats opened up a 58-26 halftime lead. The Sam Houston State defense would hold the Cru to just 18 second half points to stretch out the lead.

UMHB shot just 28 per cent from the field in the loss and went 0-13 from three-point range. The Cru turned the ball over 21 times, but pulled down 18 offensive rebounds. Sam Houston State shot 52 per cent from the field as a team and hit eight three-pointers in the game.

Tucker led UMHB with 18 points and Jovana Miles pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Cru. Kourtney Bevers scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds. Amanda Barnes topped six players in double figures for the Bearcats with 15 points and she also grabbed seven boards for Sam Houston State.

The Cru women will now return home to host their annual Alumni Game next Saturday in Belton. UMHB will officially open the 2013-14 season with a 2:00 PM home game against Austin College on November 16th at the Mayborn Campus Center.
