Belton, TX – University of Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman Leah Brown was named the American Southwest Conference Co-Hitter of the Week for the week ending April 6th. Brown is the third Crusader to earn a softball weekly honor this season.

Brown, a Waco, Texas (Crawford H.S.), native, helped the Cru to a 5-0 week with sweeps of Trinity University and the University of the Ozarks. Brown went 6-for-15 on the weekend for a .400 batting average. She helped the Cru open the week with a 9-1 win over Trinity, batting 3-for-4 with two RBI, including the game-sealing RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to secure the five-inning victory. Brown then hit the game-winning three-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to give UMHB a 4-2 win in the second game against Trinity. Against Ozarks, she recorded two hits for four RBI and two runs scored. Brown drove in runs in 60 percent of her at-bats over the weekend and one in every game she started. She currently leads the Cru in batting average (.427), runs scored (18), hits (38), RBI (27), doubles (11) and total bases (54).

The Cru softball team is 19-12 overall this season and 14-10 in ASC action. UMHB resumes play Friday in a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Louisiana College at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
