ARLINGTON, Texas – Following a third-place showing by the Baylor women's cross country team's top runners in Iowa on Friday, a second set of BU student-athletes produced a third-place finish at the UTA Season Opener on Saturday morning at Lynn Creek Park.

Individually, freshman Lindsey Smith carded the best time for BU, running the 5K-course in 18:56.1 to finish 11th overall. Sophomore Angela Tharpe (19:28.3) and Kristina Brown (19:28.5) were the next Lady Bears to cross the finish line taking 16th and 17th place, respectively. Baylor's final two scoring runners were junior Jenna Henrich (19:32.6) and freshman Lexi Reamer (19:33.6) in 19th and 20th-place respectively. That five runner total gave BU 83 points, which was third to UTA's team score of 39 and SMU's of 25.

"I thought our girls competed hard. I think for most of them it was their first time running a 5K, so that is a big step. For the most part they handled it well. We had a few that may have gotten out a bit fast, but we had some good times and finished well overall." - Baylor track associate coach Michael Ford

Baylor will be off next week, before the men's and women's teams return to action on Sept. 28 at the North Texas Invite.
