TxDOT: Hill County roads being prepared ahead of sub-freezing temps and precipitation

Roads are being treated with a solution to help keep them safe during this week's drop in temperature.

WACO, Texas — TxDOT Waco District announces that it will be treating roads in Hill County prior to this week's sub-freezing temps and potential precipitation.

Roads in Hill County, including I-35, are being treated with a brine solution that will help lower the freezing point of moisture on the roadways.

This is especially important for bridges and overpasses as these higher elevated roadways are the first to experience the freezing temperatures.

Crews will closely monitor the forecast and road conditions as the week progresses.

TxDOT asks that travelers give crews at least 200 feet of space while they are treating roads.

TxDOT would also like to remind drivers of these helpful tips during freezing conditions on the road:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Buckle up
  • Increase follow distance between you and the car in front of you
  • Use extra caution when on bridges, overpasses, ramps and turns
  • Do not use cruise control
