Water filling station setup for Killeen residents with no water

Killeen officials said full recovery from the damage caused by the winter storm will take weeks.

KILLEEN, Texas — The city of Killeen remained under Stage five water restrictions Friday as the city worked to restore water levels.

The city said the restrictions would remain in place until further notice and that all residents with water needed to boil it before consumption.

The city said they had received hundreds of reports of frozen private water service lines and warned that as the temperature rises pipes will begin to thaw, increasing the risk for water damage to homes if they cracked during the freeze.

Anyone with frozen lines can email wsoperations@killeentexas.gov or call 254-501-6320.

For the thousands of people with no water, the city established a water filling station at 805 West Jasper Dr. It was set to open from Noon to 6 p.m. Friday and again from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Residents were asked to bring their own containers to fill and amounts would be limited based on demand.

The city said residents should expect full recovery to take weeks.
