Astrodome Renovations Rejected

(KCEN) -- Houston residents spoke loud and clear about the future of the Astrodome.

Voters rejected a plan to turn the first multipurpose domed stadium that once hosted both professional baseball and football games into a giant convention and event center and exhibition space.

The failure of the $217-million bond measure most likely means that the eighth wonder of the world that opened in 1965 will be demolished.

While there wasn't an organized effort against the referendum, some opponents say the money to refurbish the Astrodome could be better spent on other projects.
