Corsicana Police arrest man officers say kidnapped, sexually assaulted victim

The Corsicana Police Department arrested a 22-year-old man who investigators said convinced a female to drive him home after he had been drinking, then sexually assaulted her.

After the alleged victim dropped off Luis Salas-Trevino at his home, he came back out of his place armed with a gun and forced her to drive them both back to her residence, where he sexually assaulted her on Nov. 12, according to Patrol Captain Nori Rhodes.

The victim reported the alleged sexual assault a few days later on Nov. 16. At that time, the Corsicana Police Department opened an investigation.

“Detective Dan Putman conducted a very thorough investigation,” Chief of Police Robert Johnson wrote in a statement. “He was able to obtain warrants for sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping and retaliation on Nov. 21.”

But, as far as serving those warrants, investigators had trouble locating Salas-Trevino because he did not appear in their database search. And, it was not the first time a law enforcement agency had trouble finding him.

“He had a warrant for theft of a firearm and theft of property in other locations,” Rhodes added in a statement. “He failed to appear to those charges, one in Brownsville and the other in Colorado.”

Investigators caught a break when another report was made a few weeks later.

“On Dec. 3, a mother of a 15-year-old approached the CPD to report that her daughter had been sexually assaulted by the suspect on Nov. 23 at an address in Navarro County, and was now threatening her on social media,” Chief Johnson explained.

Using the location provided by that mother, Officer Rose Clark was able to find Salas-Trevino, who was arrested by Clark and Sgt. Trent Parker after a quarter-mile foot chase.

Salas-Trevino was charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault, evading arrest, obstruction and retaliation, and theft of a firearm and property, according to police.
