A man was shot while playing basketball with his children in front of his house in the 5900 block of Stonehaven Dr. in Bell County Thursday night.
Temple Police said they first responded to a call for "shots fired" in the 6600 Block of Ambrose Circle around 8:33 p.m. after a homeowner reported shots being fired from a nearby corn field.
The homeowner told police she was looking out her back window when a bullet hit her double-pane window, penetrating the first pane and stopping at the second pane. Police said nobody was injured inside the house.
While officers were on the scene, they heard shots being fired from behind the field and went searching for the shooter. Temple Police said they found a man shooting a 9 mm pistol at a constructed berm on his property in the 1200 block of East FM 93.
"The male had shot several hundred rounds by the time the officer found him," Temple Police Spokesperson Shawana Neely said in a press release.
While officers were speaking with the alleged gunman, they heard a victim of a shooting had arrived at Baylor Scott & White's emergency room in Temple. The victim said he was playing basketball with his kids on Stonehaven Drive -- roughly two blocks from where the window pane was damaged -- when a bullet struck him in his abdomen. Police said the victim's wife drove him to the emergency room.
Neely said the victim was not listed in serious condition, and medical staff safely removed the bullet without taking him to surgery.
The Temple Police Department's Violent Crime Squad is investigating.
