Deputies bust Freestone Co. marijuana growing operation, seize guns

The Freestone County Sheriff's Office busted an indoor and outdoor marijuana growing operation Tuesday.

Deputies executed a search warrant at a site on S. Highway 75, roughly a mile outside the Fairfield City limits. In a post on Facebook, investigators said they found 40 marijuana plants, along with psilocybin mushrooms and 12 firearms.

Two suspects were arrested. Deputies identified them as Courtney Rashad Perkins and Philip Morgan Ireland.

Both suspects were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft of service, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.

"Job well done by Lt. Willis, Lt. Aldrich, Deputy Cordova and Deputy Wright," said Sheriff Jeremy Shipley. "Quick action led to more drugs off our streets and more firearms taken out of dangerous hands."

Shipley said the investigation was ongoing.
