SWAT officers arrest murder suspect in Belton Tuesday morning

Authorities apprehended a murder suspect in Belton early Tuesday morning.

The joint Harker Heights-Belton Police SWAT Team, in conjunction with the Bell County Organized Crime Unit, worked with the U.S. Marshals Service to arrest Christian Bernal, 19, without incident at an apartment in the 1100 block of Shady Lane around 1:04 a.m.

Bernal was wanted in connection with a murder out of the Mathis area -- in San Patricio County.

He was taken to the Bell County Jail and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police also filed a motion to revoke his probation.

Bernal's bond was set at $1.1 million.
